Kathryn A. Jul, Professional Bowenwork Practitioner, Licensed Massage Therapist
Kathryn attended Chesapeake College from 2007-2008 for massage therapy. While her education includes Swedish, Deep Tissue, Myofascial Release, intro to Craniosacral, and intro to Lymphatic massage, Kathryn primarily focuses on Bowenwork in her practice. She was introduced to Bowenwork during her training at Chesapeake College through a demonstration of the gentle Australian bodywork. After having torn a muscle in her low back in 2006, Kathryn had been living with mild to moderate discomfort for about two and a half year, and had difficulty staying in any position for more than a few minutes at a time. Following a brief demonstration by the Bowenwork practitioner who had come to her school, Kathryn stood up without back pain, and remained pain free for months following. She spent the next year taking the Bowenwork training through the American Bowen Academy. Kathryn is an Associate Instructor, and on the path to becoming a full Bowenwork Instructor. She has also taken scar tissue release coursework associated with Tom Bowen's technique.
Kathryn is passionate about encouraging healing and recovery from physical, emotional, and mental trauma through bodywork. She is interested in research regarding the use of touch and vibration in stimulating the body's innate ability to reset and rejuvenate.
From Osgood-Schlatter disease as a girl, to fibromyalgia, depression, anxiety, PTSD, insomnia, narcolepsy, and severely herniated discs in her 20s, Kathryn has experienced a fair amount of pain in her life. While it was difficult to go through, she feels it makes her a more empathetic and effective therapist. She is able to use her experiences and what has worked for her to control her pain, to help her clients lead better quality lives.
When not working with clients, Kathryn enjoys reading to and playing with her two young boys, and being outside as much as possible.
